Ed Pickett Sr.
Ed Pickett Sr., 84, of Loganton, met his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 10, 2018, after a brief stay at the Gatehouse in Williamsport Pa.
Born December 2, 1933, in Soddy, Tennessee he was the son of the late Daniel F. Pickett and the former Ethel Lewis. Ed was preceded in death by his wife the former Brenda M. Heggenstaller who passed on January 8, 2007. The Pickett’s were united in marriage on July 19, 1958 in Ringgold GA. Ed had two brothers, Fred and Louis and five sisters, Nellie, Peggy, Nora, Belle and Wendy. All proceeded him in death.
Ed honorably and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in combat zones in both the Korean Conflict in 1952-53 and the Vietnam War in 1966-67. He retired as a Staff Sergeant in July of 1972, with over twenty years of service. His military decorations include the Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal (fourth award). Following his military retirement Ed worked many years as a security officer.
Ed was a member of the Sugar Valley Historical Society and the Southern Clinton County Sportsman Association. He and his wife attended Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren for numerous years and was most recently affiliated with the Oval United Methodist Church, enjoying weekly sermons sent to him by Pastor Wanda Minnick. He became a member of More Light Masonic Lodge No. 874, Schweinfurt Germany in May of 1970.
Ed enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, gardening and bird watching. He was an avid reader and was a regular follower of current events and political news. Ed never met a stranger, greatly loved interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed by many.
Surviving are two sons, Ed Jr. (Cathy) Pickett, of Loganton and Rev. Lee H. (Donna) Pickett, of Thompson Manitoba, Canada; and two grandsons, Sterling and Jeremiah.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Oval United Methodist Church, 6796 PA-44, Jersey Shore, PA 17740. Family and friends may call at 12 noon, Saturday, until the time of service at the church.
Burial will be at the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
