LeRoy Allen Wenker

LeRoy Allen Wenker went to meet his Lord on Feb. 27, 2018. He was born on April 7, 1923, in Swissdale, to Carl and Edna Keiffer Wenker.

He was a great-grandson of John and Anna Blush Wenker, one of the first families to emigrate from Switzerland to Swissdale.

LeRoy was a 1941 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

On Feb. 12, 1943 he married the love of his life, the former Dora Mae Burkett. Soon after that he was inducted into the US Army and served with the 66th Infantry Division in the Northern France Campaign in WWII.

After returning home, he worked for Penn Dot, Woolrich Mills, Hammermill, Piper, and Montgomery Ward, before retiring and working for himself on the farm.

LeRoy and Dora were regular vendors at the local Farmers’ Market from 1946 to 2002; selling garden produce, baked goods and pork products. LeRoy raised and sold Christmas trees for many years, a project he began while in high school.

He enjoyed tracing the family genealogy and had a booklet published with the family history. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and their families.

LeRoy was a member of the Swissdale Evangelical Church for 25 years and then a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Lock Haven for over 50 years. At Covenant Church, he taught Sunday school classes for young boys and later taught adult Sunday school classes.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Dora, with whom he just recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary at a large family gathering.

He is also survived by 4 children, sons Gerald (Candy) Wenker, of Lock Haven, Dennis (Karen) Wenker, of Salisbury, N.C., Terry (Donna) Wenker, of Lock Haven, and daughter Jeanne (Robert) Pellacore, of Jersey Shore; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Claire Wenker, and his oldest son, Kenneth Wenker.

Funeral Services for LeRoy Allen Wenker will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to service. Officiating will be Pastor Gary Runtas of The Gap Fellowship Church in Williamsport.

Interment will be in the Swissdale Cemetery.
