Harold E. Shoemaker
Harold E. “Buck” Shoemaker, 97, of McElhattan passed away at the Gatehouse Hospice at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport Saturday, May 25, 2019.
He was born in Lock Haven December 23, 1921, a son of John and Minnie Ramser Shoemaker. He was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. For over 33 years he was employed by AVCO in Williamsport as a machinist and magna flux inspector. He was a member of the Swissdale United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #131 Lock Haven. Buck thoroughly loved his family whether it was fishing, playing croquette, kick ball or playing cards. He enjoyed traveling, casinos and camping.
He is survived by his wife the former Velma Merrill whom he married August 7, 1999. His children Deanna Bitner (Dan) of Beech Creek, John Shoemaker (Marie) of McElhattan, Von Shoemaker (Diane) of Canada, Harold “Buck” Shoemaker, Jr. (Kathy) of Lock Haven, Crystal Fye (Tim) of Mill Hall, Lori Buskirk (Craig) of Beech Creek, James Showers (Yvonne) of Auburn, NY and Darlene Bloom (Leonard) of W. Decatur, NY. 20 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter Sherry Serafini in 2001 and a brother Warren and a sister Grace.
Buck’s Tribute of Life Service will be held Thursday May 30, at 11 a.m. from the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, PA with his Pastor Jay Saldana officiating. He will be laid to rest in Jersey Shore Cemetery next to his first wife Betty Jayne Kissell Shoemaker who passed away in 1986.
