Each Saturday, The Express community newspaper highlights people, groups and activities our readers deem worthy of APPLAUSE!
Great article in The Express (Aug. 23) about the Whippoorwill Tavern and the Vilello Family. I’m sure that brought back a lot of memories to a lot of people. And yes, The Hammermill Paper Co. and Piper Aircraft always had their Christmas Dinners at the “Whip.” Everyone knew where the Whipoorwill was a knew of the “Whips” reputation for great food and excellent service. APPLAUSE to Marsha Croll who waitressed at the “Whip” for many years and worked really hard. Everybody knew Marsha and she knew everybody. Marsha still looks the same as she did many years ago. When you see her say hello. She will no doubt remember you.

WONDERFUL cleanup after the 48th annual Lock Haven Area Jaycees Labor Day Regatta. Job well done!
Read with interest the recent weekend copy of The Express highlighting the history of the Cedar Hill Cemetery on Mackeyville Road. The Cemetery Board was mentioned several times regarding all the work they have done to enhance the cemetery. There were also the names of people and families who have financially contributed throughout the years. Also mentioned all were the Clinton County Community Foundation and Lamar Township supervisors for all their help. While a board is needed to oversee the cemetery’s needs and financial gifts help maintain the cemetery, I didn’t see where maintenance crews were mentioned. The grounds at Cedar Hill Cemetery have always been beautifully maintained. APPLAUSE and a standing ovation to the maintenance crews past and present.
