Local officials should not endorse Trump

I find it appalling that so many of locally elected officials in Blair County are endorsing Donald Trump for president of the United States. The notion by John Eichelberger of Blair County and others that Trump is not being treated fairly by the media is ludicrous. The news media is merely reporting the idiotic, dangerous rhetoric word for word that comes out of Trump’s mouth.

Sen. Eichelberger also actually agreed with Trump that Trump could only lose Pennsylvania if certain parts of the state “cheated.” The facts, however, are that little or no voter fraud exists, and that the myth of voter fraud is used to suppress certain groups from legally voting.

Trump, if he loses Pennsylvania, will not lose due to voter fraud. Instead, he will lose due to the fact that the majority of Pennsylvanians do not believe in building a wall, do not believe in violent threats toward Hillary Clinton, do not believe in belittling the disabled, do not believe in using nuclear weapons cavalierly, do not denounce our military heroes, and are not sexist or racist.

Mainstream sensible leaders of the Republican Party are either outright not endorsing Trump or are distancing themselves from his dangerous, divisive rhetoric. This unfortunately cannot be said of our own local Republican elected officials.
