Helping because you want to …

Charlotte Rebuck wants to pay it forward.

With help from friends and mentors, the young woman from the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School has made more than 800 “Jared Boxes” — simple containers that hold joy for kids who could really use something to smile about as they battle life-threatening illnesses.

That joy is in the form of toys and activities in boxes — plastic containers.

We are pausing this moment to recognize Charlotte for her determination, her desire and her compassion to help others.

As she said in a story on Page A3 in this past Saturday’s Express community newspaper, Charlotte was hospitalized a couple of years ago and experienced first-hand how lonely and scared a child can be while in a hospital.

Charlotte’s school donated 75 Jared Boxes to Geisinger’s Children’s Hospital the last two years but she wanted to do more.

She’s doing it … raising thousands of dollars to buy items to put in the boxes … over 800 boxes.

That’s 8 … 0 … 0.

That’s a lot of boxes.

That’s a lot of smiles.

Thank you, Charlotte, for paying it forward.

You’re an awesome inspiration to a lot of people.
