Thank you for your service

Congratulations to all involved at Goodwill Hose Co. Ambulance Association in Flemington for working so hard to raise money to build a new station in the face of a significant increase in calls over the past five years.

The life-saving service provided by Goodwill, its sister Goodwill Hose Co., along with all of the other ambulance and, of course, fire companies in the region are often taken for granted … until you need them.

But you cannot ignore these numbers: Goodwill has seen a 50-percent increase in emergency calls since 2012.

The number of calls per year are averaging around 2,000.

That’s amid Clinton County having five emergency service/ambulance operations: Lock Haven EMS, Goodwill, Renovo, Beech Creek and Cross Fork.

Not bad for a county of just under 40,000 people.

It was just March 3 when Goodwill and we believe all or most of the EMS and fire companies here responded to a 45-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 that left multiple people injured.

The Goodwill operation is 24/7, with paid and volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics, and a mobile intensive care unit.

The importance of rapid ambulance response to emergency medical crises cannot be overstated.

The need for trained and well qualified staff to man ambulances is critical.

Response times can mean the difference between life and death in the most serious medical emergencies.

Thank you to all of our first responders.

You are appreciated more than you know.
