Applause, Applause!

Each Saturday, The Express community newspaper highlights people, groups and activities our readers deem worthy of applause.

A great big APPLAUSE to everyone who has supported the Beech Creek Friendship Community Center. Thanks to your donations we did a lot of improvements to the center in 2017. The biggest improvement was getting a new roof on the building. We appreciate every donation that we receive. If it wasn’t for the help of the community and organizations, this roof project would not have happened. Thank you for your support and we hope we can count on your support in 2018. We would like to upgrade the lighting at the center to all L.E.D. lights, and with the community’s continued support it will happen. May you all have a wonderful holiday!

A big APPLAUSE to my family, friends and total strangers. All my life I have always tried to help others when they had a problem. In October of 2017, I suffered a serious health issue and now the shoe is on the other foot — I’m the one who needed help. It is amazing what people have done for me — a basket raffle, food, taking me to doctors appointments, just to name a few. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God bless each and every one who has done something for me. I really am blessed to be part of the Community Center and the town of Beech Creek.

The Christmas parade in Mill Hall on Saturday, Nov. 25, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, turned out great with a beautiful day. Thanks to The Express staff, Wendy Stiver, Lana Muthler, Laura Jameson, Bob Rolley and others at The Express for advertising our parade, and to Jeff and Mark Schlesinger and Randy Dorey of WBPZ for the plugs they gave about the parade over the past month. It means a lot to have the media support for an event that a number of members of the Mill Hall Kiwanis have spent time preparing. The parade is something that we want our children to enjoy. We also want to thank Pete and Tony Rinella of Addie’s for providing us with our trophies. Thanks go to Mill Hall Borough Council for allowing the parade to use the main streets and closing them off to traffic. We thank the borough police for their assistance as needed. We thank Dan Duck and others at the Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Co. for allowing us to use the fire hall for Santa to greet the children, and the Mill Hall Senior Citizens Community Center personnel who had the Christmas tree set up for Santa to sit by. Bob Bechdel, Ed Pfeiffer and Charlie Gephart got people lined up and started on time. Judges Karla Hoy, Gail Gephart and Kim Marconi were very dedicated to their decisions. Those who helped Santa at the fire hall included Barb and Paul Kellerman, Dot Jackman and Judy and Art Turner, who also packed all the treats. Our thanks to each and all for your assistance. Thanks to V.A. director Bill Bechdel and Team Red, White and Blue for leading us off with a color guard and Jessica Marconi and friend for carrying the Kiwanis banner. And a special thanks goes to Santa Claus and all those who joined the parade. Without you there would be no parade.

A big THANK-YOU and kudos go to the Great Island Presbyterian Church for their great Thanksgiving meal, to the cooks, servers, delivery drivers, and cleanup crew! It was a tasty meal. I appreciate your service ministry to the community and honor to the Lord.
