Note left in school threatening harm a wake-up call

The threat to cause harm at Jersey Shore Area High School by an as-yet unknown student or students should ring loud and clear to all school authorities that anything can happen at any time.

The district is appropriately ramping up security at schools in the district, and notably partnering with the local Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Department to investigate the incident and provide more security.

Having armed police officers at school each morning should send a clear message to the perpetrator(s): We will take whatever measures necessary to stop you.

Was the threat found scribbled on a wall in a bathroom in the high school last week a prank?

Possibly.

But district officials are not laughing.

Parents are not laughing.

Other students are not laughing.

The community is not laughing.

The district and police should leave no stones unturned to find out who left this note.

What is their motivation? Playing a joke?

Or is there a serious issue of bullying or hate behind it?

We suggest officers be at the schools for the foreseeble future.
