Trail projects bring exciting possibilities, opportunities
Building a new rail-trail from Castanea all the way to the vaunted Pine Creek Rail Trail at Jersey Shore.
Building a walkway connecting the Jay Street Bridge to Riverview Park.
Building a boat launch and even a river walk along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River at Renovo.
Building a multi-field baseball complex along Bald Eagle Creek in Castanea Township.
Connecting the Bloody Skillet and Whiskey Springs ATV trail systems in Western Clinton County.
Building an RV park in Castanea Township.
Building a three-mile recreational trail connecting Bellefonte and Milesburg.
These are among key projects underway or on the drawing board in our area.
And boy, can they make a difference.
How exciting it is to see people work together to improve and grow recreational opportunities here in Central Pennsylvania.
No, we can’t attract thousands of people each year to national (Penn State) or worldwide (Little League Baseball) events.
But our rural hamlet can work to make the simple and slower quality of life here more attractive to locals and visitors.
And what about millenials and young couples who want to surround themselves with beautiful mountains and fresh water streams, rather than traffic jams and congestion.
The initiative to connect Castanea-Lock Haven to the magnificent Pine Creek Rail Trail is bold.
“Git r done,” as they say.
Buying and fixing an unused but not forgotten railroad bridge spanning the West Branch of the Susquehanna River at Pine Creek and Wayne Townships public access is the kind of thinking and planning needed here.
We love it.
Imagine walking or riding a bike across this historic bridge and taking in the magnificant views of the river, mountains and valley it offers?
Of course, these things cannot be done without money, but we’re encouraged by officials’ aggressive attempts to find grant funds to finance the work.
“We Are” a place where outdoor recreation combines with rural living to offer great quality of life and tremendous potential for economic growth.
