Read, write … and read

A shout out to members of the Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle & Nittany Valleys (BENV) for their support of reading.

This very active service club recently heard it will receive a grant from the Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation to help fund its BENV Kiwanis Helps Raise Readers Program.

The Express community newspaper recently published an announcement on the initiative that also expounded on Kiwanis Club of BENV’s numerous efforts to help teach our kids to read.

And this club is active — really active — working with Lock Haven University Circle K, Lock Haven University, UPMC Susquehanna, the Infant Development Program, Clinton County Housing Authority, Keystone Central School District and others to promote reading and overall well-being.

In a world where attention spans are becoming shorter. In a world where texting and Tweeting are eating away at good grammar.

In a world where teaching cursive writing is seemingly less important in our schools.

In a world where … watching instead of reading has us dumbing down.

Thanks, BEVN Kiwanis (and others who promote reading.) Your work does not (and should never) go unnoticed.
