Striving to recognize veterans

JIM HIRONIMUS

Why doesn’t anyone care about historically correcting the Miles Township Veterans Monument?

For over seven years I have personally been on a campaign to get the information on the Miles Township Veterans Monument to be 100 percent historically correct. I have been met with nothing but walls and have received no help from anyone. The local VFW and Legion will not even respond to my letters asking for their assistance.

The monument has been changed but is not correct. This last time they even REMOVED the stars that designated the veterans who were in combat in Vietnam, versus correcting by removing one name and adding two others. Why did they remove everyone’s stars? This was uncalled for. This was the third time they supposedly corrected the monument.

Why is it that I can write a newspaper in the next county and get better coverage than in the county where the incident happened?

I am 65 and will not give up till the monument is 100 percent historically correct! I cannot see why it does not bother other veterans or their families. I am seeking to make the corrections for the other veterans, both living and dead, who have no voice.

Please call Miles Township or your local VFW or American Legion or Marine League and complain about this. I am fighting this alone. I need your help to get this monument corrected. Is that too much to ask for our veterans? Please help! Thank you from a retired USAF Vietnam combat veteran.
