Farmers’ Market at Mackeyville fairgrounds sets bonus weekend
MACKEYVILLE-The Farmers’ Market season is soon coming to a close. Because the public has responded so well to the Farmers’ Market at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, which includes an extensive flea market as well, organizers have scheduled a “bonus” weekend to accommodate those who work and can’t get to the market on Tuesdays, and for those who just can’t get enough of that fresh air shopping.
The Farmers’ Market will be open Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additional flea market vendors will take part on this special weekend.
To add to the excitement, local auctioneer Harry Schenck will have an auction in the 4-H/Open Show building that Saturday.
The weekly market at the fairgrounds has proven to be a popular one and seems to be a constant on the calendars of many families in the area. It is not only a place to get fresh baked goods, fresh produce and plants, and a place to get a weekly shopping “fix” but it serves as a social event as well. Folks enjoy food just purchased from the fair’s food stand or other food vendors while sitting and visiting at the fairgrounds picnic tables, or gathering for a visit down memory lane on the porch of the fair office.
Sept. 20 will be the last Tuesday for the Farmers’ Market for the season. Most of the vendors will remain at the fairgrounds for The Farm City Family Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Then the popular finale to the fairgrounds season of events is the two-day craft show, “Christmas In The Barns.” This year’s dates are Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23. To get further information, or to inquire about vendor space for any of these events, call Ruth Eoute at 570-660-1231.
