John C. Stiver
John C. Stiver, 92, formerly of 526 Grape St., Lock Haven, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 at Haven Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Sept. 28, 1923 in Port Matilda, the son of the late Norman Roy and Blanche Williams Stiver.
On Sept. 10, 1948 in Lock Haven, he married the former Faye E. Bowes who preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2015.
John was a graduate of the Port Matilda area schools and attended Penn State University until being drafted and serving in the United States Army with the 756 Field Artillary in the Pacific.
He was employed as a scheduling supervisor in the maintenance department for Hammermill Paper Company until his retirement.
He was a member of the First Church of Christ, and the VFW, both of Lock Haven. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and Penn State.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela E. Bryerton (Kevin), of Lock Haven; two sons, Allen B. Stiver (Patricia), and James F. Stiver (Linda), both of Lock Haven; three sisters, Betty Vydra, of Chicago, Ill., Wanda Dillon, of Erie, and Julia Zin, of Lock Haven; a brother, Norman Stiver, of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Stacie Bryerton, Ashley Nat, Rob Stiver, Jamie Mertz, Chris Stiver and Scott Stiver, and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by a son Robert W. Stiver, and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at 2 p.m at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with Pastor Steve Salmon officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ, Water and Vesper streets, Lock Haven, Pa., 17745.
