A day to appreciate art

There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with a group of young people on a project.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take part in an afternoon of painting at the Williamsport Area High School. The idea was to use our fingers to paint a picture the students had begun working on several days prior to the scheduled activity. I hadn’t painted since my elementary school days, and having the chance to get my hands into it brought back a lot of fond memories.

I’ve always had an appreciation for art, but never had any confidence in myself as an artist.

This made me believe that perhaps there is some hidden artistic ability inside me.

Creativity is so important, and I hope that schools across the country will keep this in mind in the future. Students need art and music programs just as much as they need math and science in their daily education.

Today’s students just might be the artists of tomorrow.
