A different perspective

It almost seems like in any discussion about President-elect Trumps victory in the Presidential election last month, one of the first retorts out of any Democrat-liberal is that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by slightly more than 2.5 million votes. Now, while it is true, it almost seems that with the frequency in which they repeat it, they are once again attempting to delegitimize Trump’s victory and presidency similar to what they did to George W. Bush.

While Hillary Clinton won the national vote by 2.5 million votes, she won California by the even larger margin of over 4 million votes, meaning if we were to pull California out of the equation, Donald Trump won the remaining 49 states and the District of Columbia by 1.5 million votes.

Now, if we are going to have a discussion on the Electoral College vs. popular vote in electing our president, then this is where we need to start.

Should the most populous state in the country be the one that determines our president every election cycle?

We are, after all, the United STATES of America. One of the reasons for the Electoral College was to satisfy the concerns of smaller states who felt the larger states would dominate the elections and drown out their concerns, and without that compromise there would be no United States of America today.

Now one of the arguments by Democrats/Lliberals against the Electoral College is that they are not fairly represented in the Government, but that is not true. Our Founders when creating our Government had envisioned this and set up the House of Representatives which awards representation within our Government based upon population giving these larger states greater representation in the House.

So the next time your Democrat/liberal friend blurts out about Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote, give them this little bit of information for a different perspective.
