Give them a taste of their own medicine

I found it somewhat shocking that there were 138 complaints handled by the 911 emergency communications center in Lycoming County on Sept. 9, 16 and 17, plus 54 individuals sentenced in Lycoming County Court this week.

To myself and half the population that resides in Lycoming County, we are sitting ducks waiting to be victimized by the very population that makes up our county.

It seems whatever is being done to these perpetrators is not effective in deterring them.

Give them a taste of their own medicine.

All policemen should carry a night stick on their side the way they used to. They should then use it when the occasion arises.

Secondly, it amazes me how many automobile accidents take place on our highways by non-caring motorists who leave their common sense at home when they jump into their vehicles.

They have car insurance, a valid driver’s license and an ownership card, but in their eyes they own the highway. All the hundreds of signs posted along every highway do not pertain to them.

Even the beast of burden horses that pull the Amish buggies are being killed. Farmers are in harms way while driving tractors and equipment on the highways that divide their farms because of eminent domain power of our state.

An example happened recently in Hepburn Township, where a car ran into the rear end of a farmer’s manure spreader. Accidents such as this are not caused by Mother Nature.

They most often are caused by a speeding or driving under the influence. A speeding automobile on our highway is as lethal as a loaded handgun and should be treated as such in the eyes of our laws.
