Save the monarch butterfly

The monarch butterfly population has decreased by 80 percent. We can help by planting native milkweed, the only plant the monarch caterpillar eats.

The milkweed plant must be free of the pesticides called neonicotinoids. Three bites of milkweed leaves tainted by this compound will kill the caterpillar. Most big stores still sell nicotinoid-treated plants. Ask if the seeds and/or the plant itself have been treated.

I think we can make a difference and help another one of nature’s beautiful children. Thank you.
