Applause, Applause!

Each Saturday, The Express community newspaper highlights people, groups and activities our readers deem worthy of applause.

Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. extends a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who made Haven Holidays a joyous occasion! Special thanks to train engineer Terry Banfill for providing rides on Thomas the Tank Engine in Triangle Park, and putting smiles on the faces of all of the children who came out. Thank you, Millbrook Playhouse Youth Ensemble for the wonderful performance at the annual tree-lighting ceremony, and all of our volunteers who helped us organize that event. Our fire and police departments and emergency responders were instrumental in providing an amazing Christmas parade for our community! Thank you for everything you do in keeping our city safe! Thank you to our judges, Krisy and Madi Meeker, Aaron Russell, Heather Harper, Millie Roman-Buday, and guest judges Ella and Carson Miller! Thank you to everyone who participated in all of the events throughout Lock Haven. We look forward to celebrating the season with you!

I would like to THANK the local radio station WBPZ. 1230 A.M. for playing the Christmas music. It is appreciated.

APPLAUSE goes out to all the employees who sacrificed their time with family and friends to serve their community on Thanksgiving Day. I understand management in the larger chains have little power in these decisions, which are made for them and not by them. We all like to be appreciated, and I commend those employers who are able to express their consideration to and appreciation of their employees by closing on holidays. My wish is that all stores could be closed on holidays so family and friends could enjoy their special days together — but I guess that’s not the “real world” anymore.

On a recent late Friday afternoon, I noticed my left front tire was lower than my other three. On my way home from the post office, I pulled into Pine Mountain Auto Repair. I went into the office and asked if anyone could check my tire pressure. A very pleasant young lady said, “Of course. Just pull over in front of the bay.” I pulled over, the door went up, and a young man came out with an air hose and asked me to pull up farther. I said since it was the left front tire, I was sure I was up far enough. He said, “Oh, no, I’m going to check all of them.” When he was through, I thanked him and asked the charge, and he said, “Nothing. No trouble.” We hear so much that is negative about our young people today. I’m sure these two are representative of many respectful, caring and kind young individuals, and we need to let them know we APPRECIATE them. A plate of Christmas cookies will be delivered Monday morning to Pine Mountain Auto Repair.

APPLAUSE and much gratitude goes to so many people and organizations who hosted and helped with the 10th Annual Play for Brian Event on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. Thanks to students in the SPRT 335 Community Relations class at Lock Haven University for hosting the event. These students managed all aspects of the event and officiated the Wallyball, Dodgeball, and Wheelchair Basketball Tournaments. They also solicited the sponsors for the event and raised close to $6,000. A special thank you to Brad Dally and Student Recreation Center staff for their efforts in this very successful event. Another Applause goes to the students of Matt Girton’s Communications class: Cameron Tobias, Christopher Bonk, Chloe Farrell, Haily Vaka, and Courtney Liller for their help. Also, much thanks to the Phi Mu Delta brothers. The event could not have happened without you and all of your hard work.
