Just the facts

WILLIAM L. EMICK

Barbours

A liberal writer questioned Guy Smith’s book, “Gun Facts,” on President Kennedy, vice presidents Walter Mondale and Hubert Humphrey regarding the Second Amendment, but no facts were presented refuting Smith’s quotes.

However, it’s understandable if you remember President Reagan’s excerpt: “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant, it’s just so much they know isn’t true.”

Readers can verify their quotes regarding the people’s right to keep and bear arms on the internet, and then they should compare them to the current Socialistic Democrats and elitists who believe “the people” referred to in the constitution, Declaration and the Second Amendment cannot be trusted with firearms.

Joel Barlow’s forewarning was directed at America’s power seekers and not apprehensive citizens regarding the right to keep and bear arms when he quoted, “The danger where there is any from armed citizens, is only to the government, not to society, and as long as they (the people) have nothing to revenge in the government which they cannot have while it is in their own hands, there are many advantages in their being accustomed to the use of arms and no possible disadvantages.”

Liberal supporters of the progressives should heed Supreme Court Justice Justin Story’s warning, “One of the ordinary modes by which tyrants accomplish their purposes without resistance, is by disarming the people, and making it an offense to keep arms.” Americans who accept their anti-gun politicians’ propaganda should recall the words of Mao-Tse-Tung who proved power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely when he stated, “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun,” and demonstrated that by having 35 million unarmed citizens murdered.

Liberals should also be aware of Joel Barlow’s quote regarding the effects disarmament has on their psyche, “The disarming of citizens has a double effect, it palsies the hand and brutalizes the mind: a habitual disuse of physical force totally destroys the moral force, and men lose at once the power of protecting themselves, and of discerning the cause of their oppression.”
