Ed Pawlowski and Mark Dambly

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski was convicted recently of multiple counts of bid-rigging, conspiracy and fraud.

Prosecutors said Pawlowski awarded over-priced municipal construction contracts — in exchange for campaign contributions. Who cares? Penn State Board of Trustees Chairman Mark Dambly — under subpoena in the same probe — was Pawlowski’s top campaign contributor, and reportedly was awarded millions in construction projects. What follows is a letter sent to every member of the PSU board, in July 2017, before they elected Dambly as chairman and gave him oversight over billions of dollars of Penn State funds:

“Recently, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz began serving their prison sentences — imposed after each pled guilty to acting with insufficient urgency in response to reports of potential wrongdoing. When Dambly’s actions — which you have all been made aware of — come under greater public scrutiny, and when his behaviors are illuminated, your failures will be much graver than those of Curley and Schultz. And you are all complicit. You have been informed — repeatedly. You have been presented with the facts, and asked to perform your due diligence — repeatedly. And you have all willfully ignored the facts, and you have willfully refused to perform your duties as sworn fiduciaries — repeatedly. It is well beyond time for all of you to — for once — act as proper stewards of the University, and to not only refuse to cede control of the University to Dambly, but to publicly call for and demand his removal from the Board. Anything less, and your legacies will become indelible.”
