Student safety

PETER MCGUIRE

Hollidaysburg

I was bemused by the letter to the editor of March 24 by Jan Mills Sr. After thinking about the suggestions put forth, I realized that this letter is exactly how our elected officials will move forward.

In his “tongue-in-cheek” proposal, there will be numerous volunteers and committees formed all over the state and country.

After many months of meetings and discussions, with valuable time and perhaps tax dollars spent, nothing will be accomplished.

People will meet to hear each other talk, but maybe more truthfully, to hear themselves talk.

Without any definitive goals or mission statement, safety for our schools and children will drift away until another tragedy occurs.

It is my belief that our children’s behavior is based mainly on what their parents, family and church teach them.

If the parents abdicate their role, we cannot blame the school, inanimate objects (i.e. guns) or anyone else.
