‘Just do something’

KEITH MCANDREW

Williamsport

I think somebody needs to just do something about those people who say that somebody needs to just do something, especially when they don’t offer a solution to the something they want solved, and reject other people’s solution to the something!

Take the most obvious example where this phrase is used countless times lately: the shootings that have taken place.

In every case it is said over and over, “Somebody needs to just do something!”

As if any something is a solution! And when a solution is offered, such as hardening soft targets, then that is not the something they had in mind, and they will only be happy if the Second Amendment is abolished.

Another oft-used and over-used phrase is: “We need common sense gun control laws.”

As if there are not already common sense gun control laws in place! The problem is that those laws are intended for common sense sensible gun owners! What is really meant by those making this demand is to change the common sense laws into ones that do not make sense in order to stop those who don’t use any common sense when they use guns, and could not care about any laws, sensible or not!

Less than 50 years ago you did not hear about all of these shootings taking place, and it was 20 years ago when the Columbine shootings took place, so what changed between then and now?

Perhaps the something that somebody just needs to do deals more with the heart of a person than new laws which offer no solution.

A law-abiding gun owner who has a pure heart would not think of killing some innocent person with their gun.

But a person with an evil heart would not consider any law that says they cannot … sensible or not.
