Greed

MIKE KERSTETTER

Watonstown

In her July 12 letter to the editor entitled, “What a crock!” Patricia Herr laments not getting a cost of living (COLA) raise for her state pension and complains about what current workers make.

The State Employees Retirement System (SERS) and Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) pensions are more than fair.

She is receiving a pension based on what she earned, not what others earn today. I do not recall there any promise being made of COLAs for state retirees.

There was a promise that, if you met the criteria, a pension would be provided upon retiring based on what you earned and the number of years you provided a service to the Commonwealth.

As far as I’m concerned, expecting more than what you were promised, and being indignant because you’re not getting it, is greed.
