Candidates running for office in Pennsylvania have been asked whether they support an independent citizens’ commission for redistricting.

The results so far:

Pennsylvania House District 76 candidates:

– Stephanie Borowicz (R): No response yet

– Michael Hanna Jr. (D): Supporter

District 12 Congressional candidates:

– Tom Marino (R): No response yet

– Marc Friedenberg (D): Supporter

Friedenberg further commented, “We need to make sure that the essential Constitutional right to vote is protected for every American. The right to vote is currently under attack.

“Seventeen states introduced new restrictions on voting in the 2016 Presidential election. Partisan gerrymandering has made a mockery of the principle of “one person, one vote” in dozens of states, and we need independent commissions to determine fairly-drawn boundaries for Congressional districts, state legislative districts, and even our heavily-gerrymandered school districts.

“I support the work of Fair Districts in advancing this goal. We also need to pass federal legislative action, such as the Voting Rights Advancement Act, to reverse the damage done to our voting system and to restore our basic democratic ideals. As a cybersecurity law expert, I understand fully the threats that currently face our elections process. Once elected, I am committed to applying my technical knowledge to shore up vulnerabilities in the information systems of our local, state, and federal governments, making sure that every vote is counted fairly and accurately.”
