Until we meet again

CAROLE GERST

Milesburg

I sat holding my husband’s hand, trying to comfort him as he was calling out saying how afraid he was and trying to reassure him he had nothing to be afraid after he had the last rights from our priest, Father George.

However, if I was in his shoes — yes, I believe I would be afraid of the unknown. Still, hour after hour I watched him labor in his breathing. To say it was painful would be an understatement.

I remember how excited we were about buying our first home. And yes, I got my little yellow house with the white shutters and picket fence.

How kind he was waiting up with a bottle of wine and dinner, then we would end up dancing slowly to Sweet Dreams.

Our marriage was a rare one because we actually liked each other and we loved each other.

We didn’t cut and run when difficulties would come up.

We faced them head on, together, and we believe in our God, our heavenly father, which was the foundation of our marriage.

I was very lucky to find my Robert. We had a wonderful marriage of 23 years. How many people can say that.

We laughed a lot in our marriage.

I feel laughter is the key to all troubles.

Count your blessings and put your worries into God’s hands.

Well, the time had come when I kissed my husband as he took his last breath.

Until we meet again, I love you honey and thank you for making my life wonderful.
