Right to choose
CARL REIDY JR.
What amazes me is that, for the most part, people want to argue over silly things.
Things like prayer in schools, seatbelts and helmet laws, the pledge of allegiance, just to name a few.
Let’s look at the bigger picture.
How about the right for us to make our own decisions, or have we really become a society that needs big government to tell us what is best for us?
My parents, may they rest in peace, made decisions for me as a child.
I have never been arrested. I work for what I want,. I learned respect for authority.
We didn’t pray in school, but I was never told I couldn’t. We did the pledge, but I don’t recall anybody forcing me to.
But then again, I was taught pride in my country, so I was proud to repeat it.
We were disciplined in school when we needed it, and at home if it happened.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, we were taught to think for ourselves, make our own decisions and be responsible for our decisions and our actions.
Want to fix the problems in our schools?
Let’s quit emphasizing how different we all are in our beliefs and our ways of living, and let’s return to teaching morals, discipline, respect, simple math, and yes, even the Golden Rule.
Let’s quit being individuals with separate agendas, and become Americans with brains and the ability to live and breath on our own with limited interference from our government.
We are in fact, one nation.
Let’s start living like one.
