Nuclear bailout

No one I know wants higher electric bills, but that is what will likely happen if legislators decide to subsidize the nuclear industry. We must oppose legislation to bail out the nuclear energy sector because a bailout would come on the backs of consumers while the nuclear industry already turns a profit and is demanding more.

You’re already managing to pay your bills and do the right thing; now nuclear owners want to make that harder on you by raising your costs to ensure themselves higher profits.

Similarly, the corporations that continue to make a profit from their nuclear power plants should not expect that we increase their profits through consumer price increases. Most of the nuclear power plants turned a profit in 2018, yet their executives are advocating for a state-funded bailout to raise those profits even higher.

If they are successful at passing legislation to secure a bailout, we could all see an increase in electric prices.

This is not only wrong but particularly dangerous for the most vulnerable, our elderly, who are on fixed incomes.

Call your legislators today and tell them to do the right thing.
