A tribute to an inspirational teacher

“You must fulfill your dream of becoming a great writer someday,” the inscription in my makeshift yearbook, which was really an inexpensive notebook, read.

These inspiring words had been penned by my 12th grade English teacher, Ms. Mary Beth Kibbe.

I’ve never forgotten them or the impact they’ve had on me.

Over the yeas, I have recalled them whenever I find myself stuck in the middle of a difficult project or facing a rejection that I was certain would turn out to be an acceptance.

Recently, I’ve had some significant credits added to my writing portfolio. I attribute these successes to my teacher for giving me the courage I needed to accomplish such goals. Although I still have a long way to go, I know I will continue to strive for the literary opportunities I covet.
