Year-round school

PAT SOLLEY

Montoursville

I think teachers are highly underrated.

My daughter is a teacher and I can tell you that she does not just work 180 days equivalent.

There is so much work behind the scenes, more than your 40-hour-a-week job, the responsibility and care of your children’s mind and body.

Where do you think your children would be without the love and care the teachers give on a daily basis?

They don’t just get a vacation or work eight hours a day.

They don’t leave a child until they are safely picked up and then there are lesson plans and parent conferences.

If you add everything up, they work more than the equivalent to your 2,080 hours a year.

Could you go to your job without peace of mind if there were no teachers?

All I can say is “Thank God for these dedicated individuals!” They deserve whatever time they get off.

Enough of this year-round school!

Your children need time to exercise, be with family and take a break, while the teachers attend conferences and prepare for the next year.
