Campus Life
POSTED:Mon, January 7, 2008 @ 7:10PM
ChangesThere is one thing about College life that changes us on both the inside and out. It is as though we change everyday and when it is time to be home for holidays and weekends, our high school friends don’t really know who we are any longer; with the exception of the friends that you talk to each and everyday. Recently I received an email from a friend from high school. We do not speak anymore and when I see this said person out, I just walk the other way. You know, people come in and out of our lives for a reason. If we choose to still be friends and make the effort then that is great but there are the select few that personally, I don’t care to see. While reading this email, I felt as though I had read the same one a hundred times before from this same person, and I have. After a falling out we had, I simply separated myself from the drama and everything that came along with it towards the end of the friendship. I don’t have any drama in my life right now, I am not worried about doing things and simply I am having more fun than I have ever had before. If I had been the same person now that I was back then, then I would say “ok. Let’s hang out” and everything would be fine. But to be completely blunt with you, I don’t care now. It’s done, it is over with and I am ok with it. As I sit and think about how I was in high school compared to how I am now, the mere thought of trying to get this person to understand me seems useless. I like different things, hang out with different people, and live in an apartment while at school. As we grow older, we learn whom the people are that we can count on, and those whom we can live our life without. That is the thing I have learned while in college. I have learned that you don’t have to be friends with everybody. That it is completely ok if I choose to not like somebody just as long as I do not bad mouth them or stoop to their level. It is about being able to be grown up when somebody starts to speak badly about you and turn the other cheek. My dad always said to be a stand up person. A stand up person is the person who always does what is right no matter what the circumstances are. You have to go on and forget about what other people say and live your life the best in which you know how to. I find it to be amazing how much I have changed since high school yet in a way, am still the same person. College has proven to be more to me than just about getting an education. It has been about growing up and trying to find your self, and I do believe I am doing a pretty good job of this. To the writer of the email, just know that everything is amazing and I love the life I live. I truly have the best of friends and I greet all new people with open arms. As for you, I hope that you have grown since high school just like I have.
