Campus Life

POSTED:Tue, January 15, 2008 @ 1:06PM

And so it begins

Well, as all of you were probably able to realize by the sudden increase of traffic here in Lock Haven, school is back in session. Which means longer lines in Wal-Mart, WEIS, Dunkin Donuts and even at traffic lights (I know it isn’t as big of a wait as one in a big city, but it is still big enough to notice a change).

I arrived back into the haven on Saturday afternoon after spending a month of working, going out, and being with family and friends. As I got off  Interstate 80, part of me wanted to turn around and go back home to Scranton; I always hate having to make the adjustment from home life to college life. Going from a city where there are many things to do, to Lock Haven where at times my friends and I have to make our own fun, it can be a culture shock. But as I pulled in front of my apartment, I was greeted by two of my roommates and one of the Frisbee guys and it felt as though we hadn’t been separated for the amount of time that we were. I guess the thoughts I was having of turning around came from the nervousness of seeing everybody again and seeing if we still had things in common. I know, it sounds stupid but when you go a month with minimal contact, you prepare yourself for the worst.

That is one part of being a college student that is hard. We are constantly packing up our lives to travel to school and then back home, then back again. It is a cycle that lasts for the amount of time you are away at college.  We virtually live two different lives, but that makes it fun. It is an enjoyable thing because we get to have our home friends, knowing that most of them are always going to be your friend, while you get to go out and meet people from different areas. Upon meeting these people we are able to learn more about anything and everything.

What I look forward to most this semester, besides for the having new classes and friends, are the days and nights when my friends and I are together doing what we do best; have fun and enjoy the life we live. We truly don’t know how to be anything other than happy when we are all together.
