More than a Picture

Have you ever walked into a room and find that it is covered with pictures, posters, and other random things?

If you were to walk into my bedroom in my apartment, this is what you would find. You would see two posters from Las Vegas that both show what it looks like at night time all lit up with the neon signs and fireworks, you would notice my collection of shot glasses from different places, given to me by friends, and on a good day you can actually see the beauty of the hard wood floor. Besides for the different shades of pink, and green, the random knick - knacks I have accumulated over the course of my life, the one thing that makes my room unique are the pictures I have throughout my room. On the wall behind my bed, there is a collage of pictures ranging from summer memories, ultimate Frisbee tournaments, my twenty first birthday and other fun times.

It is these pictures that are a topic of conversation when my roommates and I gather in my room to hang out. Each picture is able to spark different memories for each person--some happy and some sad.  There is this one picture of my roommates and I that sparks a lot of memories. It is one of the four of us on the first night where we were reunited for the first time since the end of spring semester. It symbolizes a new beginning and the end to things that once were. If you were to look into all of our eyes, you can see that we are all genuinely happy to be back together, and that we have each other I our lives.

Pictures are an interesting thing. They are moments in time that are frozen on a 4 x 6 piece of photo paper, in hopes that they will never be forgotten. It is as though each caption can be used as a timeline of events from that night, day, whatever it may be. It is amazing how a small piece of paper has the ability to express a story and hold a meaning that goes deeper than what the eye can see.
