The film I've just seen
A moment’s respite from the horrors of war for Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and Robbie (James McAvoy) in ATONEMENT.

Although I’m loathe to acknowledge “Forrest Gump” in any shape or form it was bizarrely that paean of praise to feeble-mindedness and, in particular, the line about life being like a box of chocolates because “you never know what you’re going to get” which sprung to mind while watching ATONEMENT.
The film is endlessly surprising both in its story and the way that story is told. At its heart ATONEMENT is a romantic tragedy but it is much more than simply the tale of two ill-fated lovers.
Opening at a country house in the rolling English countryside on a perfect summer’s day in 1935, the tragedy is set in motion by Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan), a solitary and rather spiteful 13-year-old girl with a crush on Robbie (James McAvoy) the housekeeper’s 18-year-old son.
