Williamsport to get a Kohl’s department store
May 13, 2008
The Williamsport'’s downtown could have a Kohl’s department store by October 2009, provided the Williamsport Area School District can secure a new site for its district service center.
Mayor Gabriel J. Campana signed a letter of intent with the Kohl’s chain Tuesday and the city is in negotiations to purchase and demolish the service center at 201 W. Third St. and prepare the site so construction of the store can begin by next May.
The signing took place in City Hall shortly after 10 a.m., ending months of speculation about the national chain’s interest in the downtown area.
According to the mayor and members of the Williamsport Parking Authority, Tuesday’s announcement is only “act one” of a string of initiatives in the downtown.
