Knight earns junior shooter of the year honors

AVIS — Daniel Knight, of Avis, was recently named junior shooter of the year by the Original PA 1,000 Yard Benchrest Club, Inc.

The marksmanship club, located in Trout Run, presented Knight with a plaque honoring his 2007 shooting achievements. The award was presented during the club’s annual awards banquet, which was held on October 20, 2007.

Knight shoots 1,000 yards in the light gun class and uses a custom built 6mm BRX gun with a BSA scope. The highlight of his season came on August 11 when he had the highest overall score in the light gun class. His score of 98 was the best out of the 83 participants.

Knight had a personal best shot group of 8.621 inches for the ten shots that day.

Knight, a seventh-grade student at the Jersey Shore Area Middle School, is coached by Butch Keen, his stepfather. Daniel is the son of Butch and Holly Keen of Avis, and Dan Knight of Lock Haven.
