Fred K. Walker Sr., 84, of 401 Canal St., Flemington, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit.

He was born May 5, 1924 in Flemington, a son of the late John D. and Goldie Mae Knarr Walker.

He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1942, Lock Haven Teachers College and received his Master’s Degree from New York University.

He taught school at Bald Eagle Area and Bald Eagle Nittany high schools and was a regional representative for Industrial Development for the state of Pennsylvania, retiring in 1984.

Fred was a member of Flemington United Methodist Church, Castanea Fire Hall, life member of BPOE, Beech Creek American Legion, Lafayette Lodge 199, Williamsport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine and Clinton County Shrine Club.

He was a member of Clinton Country Club, where he was a six-time champion and 11-time runnerup, and tied the course record in 1967 with a 67.

He lettered in football, golf and track in high school and was inducted into the Clinton County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Verna M. Peterson Walker, who he married May 15, 1968.

Also surviving are four sons, Fred K. (Flip) Walker of Flemington, Donald G. (Woozy) Walker of Flemington, Scott E. Walker of Lock Haven and Todd F. Walker of Lock Haven; two stepdaughters, Pamela L. Guenot of Mill Hall and Cynthia K. Randecker of McElhattan; three brothers, Thomas M. Walker of Flemington, John D. Walker of Lamar and Billy Lee Walker of Flemington; a sister, Patsy Hummer of Frankford, Del.; nine grand children, five great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with the Rev. Larry Cole officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Friends may call at Walker’s Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.
