Joseph J. Kisko

Joseph J. "Sonny" Kisko, 77, of Shintown, passed away July 13, 2008 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

He was born in Bitumen on June 30, 1931 to the late Mary Paloskey Kisko and Joseph J. Kisko.

He attended Renovo High School until enlisting in the United States Army on May 20, 1950. He was a combat veteran of the Korean Conflict and held the titles of First Field Sgt. and Platoon Sgt. In addition, he was a light weapons infantry leader. During his tour, he was the recipient of several medals, including the Silver Star. He received an honorable discharge on May 22, 1953.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Shirley; three sons, Philip (Donna) Kisko of Avis, Thomas (Pamela) Kisko of Cooks Run and Stephen (Ann) Kisko of Renovo; two daughters, Marcia (Pat) Clemente and Lisa (Craig) Hevner, both of Shintown; a brother, William Kisko of Smethport; two sisters, Frances (William) Smitchko of Snow Shoe and Elizabeth (George) Simon of Renovo; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene "Chip" Kisko, and a sister, Bertha Brown.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and his Yorkie "Diva." He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons and his yearly bear hunt with his brother Chip. Also, he loved fishing, gardening and cutting grass with his granddaughter, Maggie.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, next to his "Bro" and best friend, Chip.
