Violet L. Helmrich
Violet L. Helmrich, 90, of 1316 Watson St., Williamsport, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at The Gatehouse Hospice of Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport.
Born Aug. 27, 1917 at Loganton, she was a daughter of the late Ellis and Della Reuther Lamey.
Mrs. Helmrich was the widow of the late Charles V. Helmrich, Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1983. They were married on Aug. 30, 1940. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage.
Mrs. Helmrich was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Williamsport.
Violet was a graduate of the Sugar Valley High School class of 1934. She was also a graduate of the class of 1938 of the former Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing.
Violet had been employed by The Williamsport Hospital as a registered nurse. She had also worked as a private duty nurse for many years.
Mrs. Helmrich had been a member of the Williamsport Garden Club. She enjoyed tending to her rock garden and caring for her flower beds at her home.
Violet was an avid reader, and she also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Susanne and her husband, Dr. Raymond A. Lukas, of Montoursville; Mrs. Diana Lynn and her husband, Charles DeFanti, of Macungie; two sons, Charles Victor Jr. and his wife, Joan Helmrich of Herndon, Va.; Robert S. and his wife, Joan Helmrich of South Williamsport; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her late parents and her late husband, Violet was also preceded in death by her late sister, Josephine Slaterbeck and her late three brothers, Howard Lamey, George Lamey and Glenn Lamey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 East Central Ave., South Williamsport. Her pastor, the Rev. Richard D. Waters, will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at East Wildwood Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday evening, July 20, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services, at the funeral home.
The family declines to receive floral tributes and suggest that contributions in memory of Mrs. Violet L. Helmrich be made, if so desired, to First United Methodist Church, 2 Ross St., Williamsport, PA, 17701.
