Bellefonte man killed in ATV crash

Two fatalities, many injuries in weekend accidents

POSTED: September 2, 2008

A Bellefonte man was one of two ATV operators killed in a crash of four all-terrain vehicles in Clearfield County on Sunday night.

The crash was one of several ATV accidents in the area which left several others injured, some seriously.

Jermone McClusick, 43, of Bellefonte, and Joseph Kuneck, 38, of Pottstown, were pronounced dead at the scene of the four-vehicle crash at 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Peale Road, Cooper Township, Clearfield County, according to state police.

A passenger on McClusick's ATV, Angela Heatley, 43, also of Bellefonte, suffered moderate injuries, police said.

Two other ATV drivers were also injured in the collision. Police said Lester Walk, 20, of Morrisdale, suffered severe injuries, and Adam Ehrlick, 40, of Pottstown, suffered moderate injuries.

Police said two of the ATVs were westbound and the other two were eastbound on Peale Road when all four collided.

Meanwhile, in Lycoming County, three children were injured, one seriously, in an ATV accident in Wolf Township on Monday evening and a woman was hurt when her ATV overturned on her family's Old Lycoming Township property on Monday.

In the Wolf Township accident, the three children, ages 6, 9 and 10, were in the bed of a "Ranger" model-type ATV as it went over a 15-foot embankment on private property off Laurel Run Road, near Hughesville, at about 8 p.m. Monday, Picture Rocks Fire Chief Al Little said.

Little said a woman was trying to start the vehicle when it suddenly lunged forward and went over the bank.

The 9-year-old girl suffered serious head injuries and was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and the other two children were treated at Muncy Valley Hospital, Little said. He did not know the identities of the victims but said he believes they are from out of state.

About an hour earlier, a woman in her early 30s was injured when the ATV she was driving overturned on her family's property in the 500 block of Snyder Road, according to Old Lycoming Township police.

The woman, whose identity was not released, was the only one on the vehicle at about 7 p.m. when it apparently struck a root, police said. The woman was wearing a helmet, police said, noting that other family members witnessed the mishap and came to her aid. She was flown to Geisinger, police said.
