Natural gas fire still going in Leidy Township

Huge flames from a natural gas fire rise high above the trees at Dominion Transmission Inc. in rural Leidy Township. Firefighters from a Texas firm experienced in quelling gas well fires arrived Monday and have built a chimney around the fire to keep it from spreading to nearby woods and protect workers from the intense heat until they can plug the well. The fire, which has already blackened the area around it, was discovered Sunday and could burn for up to two weeks, officials said.
