POSTED: September 22, 2008

LOCK HAVEN - Some local children caught the reading bug in a big way this summer at Ross Children's Library.

And the fun continues as fall story time for pre-school children and toddlers resumes this Wednesday and Thursday.

Baby Bookworms for toddlers will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays. Book Bugs for pre-school children will meet at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Busy Bugs at 10 a.m. on Thursday is an alternate time for those who can't fit the other times into their schedules. That program will be geared to the predominant age group. The fall theme will be "Our Natural World." The following young people were the top readers in the summer program:

- Juliana Onuskanich, Jocelyn Sproat, Riley Kaluzny, Sara May, Raine Weaver, Ella Talbot, Leisher Gugino, Sacha Cooper, Adam Cooper, Micah Schall, Julia Schall and Lily Gugino in the Read-To- Me group.

- Rebecka Gavlock, Benjamin Curtin, Joey Rizzo, John Mark Gaponiuk, Avery Lindsey and Christopher Long in the Beginning Reader group.

- Connor Schall, Kaci Kwaitek, Brian Curtin, Seth Robinson, Tori May, Morgan Talbot, Mesyk Gaponiuk, Karis Gaponiuk, Aidan Gscheidle and Aaron Beam in the Independent readers group.

In addition to the children who participated on sight at the library, several area day cares or summer programs also recorded time spent reading or books read. They include Building Blocks, All Things Bright and Beautiful, Yost Community Center, Robb Summer Camp and Lock Haven Child Care.

Special prizes were awarded to the top three readers in each group. A special congratulations is extended to the children and the parents and caregivers who participated in the summer reading incentive program.
