George L. Eldred, 77, of Mill Hall, passed away Oct. 4, 2008 in Williamsport Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Fairpoint on April 26, 1931, he was the son of the late George J. and Evelyn Rogers Eldred.
He graduated from Lock Haven High School with the Class of 1949.
George served in the U.S. Army in Battery B of the 17th Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953.
He was an avid hunter and an expert marksman. George was a life member of the Lock Haven 40 & 8 and the VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Castanea Fire Company.
In 1954, he married the former Mary Hevner, who survives.
He was of the Methodist faith and had been a member of the former Fairpoint Methodist Church.
George had worked for 32 years at the former Piper Aircraft until its closing in 1984. He had also worked for Northeast Rebuilders in Beech Creek for 11 years until retiring in 1995.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary, are two sons, Randy and his wife Pat Eldred of Avis and Greg and his wife Darlene Eldred of Coudersport; a daughter, Lori and her husband Dennis Fisher of Lock Haven; four brothers, Thomas Eldred of Fairpoint, Lester and his wife Larue Eldred of Mill Hall, Raymond Eldred of Fairpoint and Gary and his wife Sherry Eldred of Florida; two sisters, Carol and her husband Steve Welch of Centre Hall and Shirley and her husband Boyd Kreamer of Linden; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Chris Eldred, Jaime Koons, Kelly King and Mike King Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Kyla, Caleb and Aaliyah.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Cole of Flemington United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park with full military honors. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the American Cancer Society or the Clinton County SPCA through the funeral home.
