Leon S. Andrus, 83, of 505 High St., Flemington, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at the Lock Haven Hospital Emergency Room.
Born March 27, 1925 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Ethan M. and Vina Wadsworth Andrus.
On July 3, 1954 in Mill Hall, he married the former Janet Barrett, who survives at home.

Leon was a 1943 graduate of Lock Haven High School.
He had worked at the former John Turner Gas Station and Sylvania Electric, Mill Hall, following his retirement in 1968 from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, which included a tour of duty in Korea. His last tour of duty was in Munich, Germany, with the Combined Service Group. Leon had graduated from the NCO Academy at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas.
Leon had also worked at Maremont in Mill Hall, American General Life Insurance, the City of Lock Haven, Home Securities and as a meter enforcement officer for the City of Lock Haven. He later worked at Piper Aircraft Corp. as a security guard at the main gate.
He was a former member of the Lock Haven Auxiliary Police; a charter member, past president and former treasurer of the Lock Haven-Mill Hall Golden-K Kiwanis Club; a member of First Baptist Church, Lock Haven, and its Friendship Sunday school class; a former volunteer with the First Bapist Susque-View Workers; and a member of the Beech Creek American Legion Post #623 and the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
In addition to his wife, Leon is survived by a daughter, Susan (Todd) Powlus of Mill Hall; a daughter-in-law, Karen Andrus-Smith of Port Matilda; a sister-in-law, Betty Andrus of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren, Caleb (Betsy) Powlus of Harleysville, Shanna (Drew) Wheeler of Montoursville, Nichole (Justin) Adkinson of Texarkana, Texas, Sabrina D. Andrus and Brittany McCloskey of Texarkana, Texas, and Max Andrus of Port Matilda; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah Powlus and Jett Adkinson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leon S. Andrus Jr., who died in 1993; a brother, James Andrus; and a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Robert Smawley.
Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall, with William Felmlee officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock Haven Christian School or the Recreation Fund of the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit through the funeral home.
