Kenneth Leroy "Chief" Heverly, 76, of Emerald Isle, died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Heverly was born July 12, 1932 in Rossiter to the late Park and Eva Heverly.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served proudly with the 82nd Airborne from 19491952.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora (Libby) of home; four sons, Kennie Heverly and his wife, Alisa, David Heverly and Paige T. Butler, Carl Heverly and his wife Deirdre, and Roy Heverly and his wife Stella, all of Emerald Isle, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Zena, Elizabeth, Amanda, Hunter, Alan, Fisher, Sara and Madeline Heverly; a great-grandson, Talan Guthrie; two brothers, Park Heverly and Willard Heverly, both of Mill Hall; and three sisters, Pauline Minier of Lock Haven, and Kathleen Kreidler and Mary Yost both of Newport, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Jack and Edward Heverly; and a sister, Ethel Jackson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 68 p.m. at 6402 Old Cove Road, Emerald Isle, N.C. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Eastern Ocean Regional Access (the Emerald Isle Pier site), 2701 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle, N.C.
