Area high school graduations scheduled

POSTED: June 4, 2009

Last Friday night, seniors at Walnut Street Christian School in Avis received their high school diplomas in the first of many graduation ceremonies planned in the area over the next two weeks.

On Tuesday, June 9, both Bucktail Area and Central Mountain high schools will hold graduation ceremonies.

Bucktail's commencement exercises begin at 5 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The baccalaureate service will be held June 7 at 1 p.m. in the gym.

For Central Mountain, ceremonies are scheduled for 7 p.m. at McGill Field at Central Mountain Middle School. In case of rain, the activities will be held in the high school gymnasium. Each student will receive nine tickets for family and friends - four for seating and five standing-room-only. If weather forces the event into the gym, each student will receive five tickets.

Central Mountain's baccalaureate service will be June 7 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium with Ben Haagen as the guest speaker, along with two local ministers.

Both Bald Eagle Area and Bellefonte Area high schools will hold graduation ceremonies on Thursday, June 11.

Bellefonte's ceremonies are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in Rogers Stadium. If it rains, the event will be moved to the gym. There are no baccalaureate services planned.

For BEA, ceremonies will be at 7 p.m. on the high school football field and move into the auditorium if it rains. Baccalaureate will be June 7 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium.

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled Friday, June 12, at both Jersey Shore and Penns Valley high schools.

At Jersey Shore, commencement will begin 8 p.m. in the Thompson Street Stadium. In case of rain, the festivities will be moved to the gymnasium. Baccalaureate services are scheduled for June 7 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

For Penns Valley High School, graduation ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the high school football field. In case of rain, the activities will be moved to the auditorium. Baccalaureate services are 7:30 p.m. on June 7.

At the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School, graduation will be on Monday, June 15, at 7 p.m. at the school. Baccalaureate will be held in the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren at 6:30 p.m. on June 14.

As has been past tradition, The Express will publish a "Salute to Seniors," featuring photos of graduates from all high schools in the region. The special section will be included with The Express on Friday, June. 12.
