LEWISBURG - Listings of "green" jobs in central Pennsylvania can now be found on the Web site of the SEDA-COG Energy Resource Center (ERC).
Job seekers and employers may view the listing by visiting www.seda-cog.org/energy and clicking on GreenJobSite under the green hardhat. Access to the site is free and jobs are generally listed for 45 days.
Like the rest of the country, central Pennsylvania is actively pursuing energy reduction measures, increased efficiencies and alternative forms of energy. As a result, the variety of green jobs is growing and many types of jobs now qualify as the energy market grows. Solar installers, retrofit contractors, energy auditors, insulation installers, industrial engineers, and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified professionals are just a few of the green jobs that have emerged. Schools, hospitals, municipalities and private firms are hiring energy assurance managers to direct energy conservation, electric choice and aggregate energy purchases, alternative fuels projects and efficiency activities.
While there are several national green job Web sites, Stacy Richards, ERC director, said a site focused on central Pennsylvania serves a special purpose.
"It's another means of developing regional expertise in energy-related technologies which, in turn, will encourage energy-related growth, development - and more jobs - in our region."
The Energy Center's GreenJobSite allows job-seekers to view a number of energy-related employment opportunities within the region. They can view job descriptions for all posted positions, complete with position details, education and skill requirements, how to apply and other information.
The GreenJobSite also allows employers to advertise energy-related jobs at no cost. Employers are encouraged to complete and submit the employer posting form to advertise available positions on the Web page, or use the form as a guide for creating and submitting "green job" position descriptions in .PDF format, paying attention to include the form's required information. Please note the Energy Center will not post "blind" job descriptions that do not include the company name or contact person. The Center reserves the right to decline to post a job opening that does not include information required on their job posting form or does not meet their broad definition of a "green job."
