STATE COLLEGE - The Nittany Mall is joining worldwide humanitarian aid efforts with the launch of a Haiti Earthquake Relief collection.
Community members are invited to make donations to the relief effort in collection canisters located at Nittany Mall's Management Office/Customer Service Center and participating stores. All funds raised are donated to the local American Red Cross for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, cots, counseling and other assistance to victims of the Haiti Earthquake.
Nittany Mall's Haiti Earthquake Relief collection is part of Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust's (PREIT) PREIT Cares program, the company's springboard for charitable giving and community awareness.
"Many community members are looking for a way to contribute to the cause," said Joy Weidel, group marketing director. "This relief effort at Nittany Mall provides a convenient opportunity for residents to make a difference in the face of this tragedy."
In addition to providing an outlet for the public to contribute, the Nittany Mall posted information on how to donate through a cell phone on the mall's Web site (www.shopnittanymall.com) to help spread the message.
PREIT Cares supports PREIT's five pillars: healthcare, education, arts, social responsibility and sustainability. As central gathering places in their communities, PREIT malls are ideal venues for collecting donations and raising awareness for important and timely causes. PREIT encourages its malls to be active respondents to these issues in a way that is meaningful for the communities they serve.
