Flemington gives to the needy
FLEMINGTON - The Joyful Workers of Flemington United Methodist Church are requesting donations of homemade candy be brought to church tomorrow. The group will meet Wednesday at the church to make cookies, beginning at 9 a.m., to add to the candy and create holiday bags for shut-ins.
The extra items will be sold at church Sunday, Dec. 19 with the proceeds going to a local needy family or a project.
The church's Christmas mission project is to collect new children's athletic shoes, socks and underwear which will be given to the Lock Haven Shoe Bank and Kids' Clothes Closet at Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St. The ministries serve area children and youth in need. A decorated collection box has been placed in the social hall for the donations. Cash contributions for the Shoe Bank may be given to Dolly Confer by Sunday, Dec. 19.
Also being collected are clean used coats and sweaters, to be distributed by the Salvation Army.
Blanchard kids to present programs
BLANCHARD - The Wee Ones of Blanchard Church of Christ, preschoolers through second graders, will recite Christmas speeches tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Also tomorrow, The Joyful Notes will present the dramatic musical "Manager Mania" during the second service, at 11 a.m.
Sunday school classes will not meet.
The all-church Christmas party will be held at 5 p.m. the same day, with a potluck dinner. Meat and drinks will be provided.
The youth also will have their Christmas party at 5 p.m. at the Redmonds' with a Chinese auction gift exchange.
The church is planning to deliver food boxes to local families in need and is encouraging members to send Christmas greetings to military personnel who are far away this holiday season. Names and addresses are posted on a tree in the lobby.
Carols by Candlelight concert
AVIS - Avis United Methodist Church, corner of Park and Prospect streets, will present a Carols by Candlelight concert Sunday, Dec. 19 at 6:45 p.m.
The evening will begin with a prelude of holiday music. The audience will sing carols and the choir will perform a variety of anthems. The program will include readings and poems. Everyone from the community is invited.
Key E. Knarr-Fisher is the director, Conrad D. Schlesinger is the pianist/organist, and Rev. Thomas C. Jones is the church pastor.
People's Church sets hymn sing
FARRANDSVILLE - The annual hymn sing at The People's United Methodist Church of Farrandsville will be held Sunday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to share their talents or to just enjoy the singing.
Farrandsville residents traditionally hang many holiday lights for Christmas Eve, and the church on the hillside has a beautiful view of the town all aglow for its service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.
Christmas is for kids at Howard
HOWARD - The children of Howard Christian Church, 367 Walnut St., will present their annual Christmas program, "Signs of Christmas," tomorrow during the Sunday school hour which begins at 10:15 a.m.
Prior to the program, Pastor Chuck Salmon, associate minister, will lead the service at 9 a.m., on the theme "The Christmas Presence."
A youth Christmas party is planned for 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the youth building. Children are invited to participate in an evening of fun, fellowship and a Chinese gift exchange. The choir's Christmas cantata, "The Promised Hope," will be presented during worship Sunday, Dec. 19.
Music brings Christmas to Zion
HUBLERSBURG - A special Christmas experience will be created for the Zion area Sunday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. at Marion-Walker Elementary.
There will be lots of live music performed in an informal coffeehouse style, the telling of the Christmas story, a special message and gifts for the kids. The evening, sponsored by Faith United Methodist Church, will include fellowship time with homemade cookies and hot chocolate. Everyone is invited.
Mill Hall to host Mackeyville
MILL HALL - The Mill Hall United Methodist Church will host its sister congregation at Mackeyville for a joint service and cantata at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19.
The congregations also are caroling at the hospitals and area nursing homes each Sunday afternoon, meeting around 2 p.m. Those interested in joining in are asked to call 814-880-2367 ahead of time.
Great Day of Christmas Music
LOCK HAVEN - The annual Great Day of Christmas Music at Lock Haven First Church of Christ will be presented during the 9 a.m. worship hour Sunday, Dec. 19.
Also at the church, a Christmas Eve service will be held at 7 p.m., and an End-of-Year Bash is planned for Sunday, Dec. 26 at 10:30 a.m. during the Sunday school hour.
Trinity youth play is Dec. 19
JERSEY SHORE The youth of Trinity Episcopal Church will present the play humorously titled "This is so Embarrassing! A Christmas Service Presented (Somewhat Reluctantly) by the Church's Youth" during the service Dec. 19. Holy Communion also will be celebrated.
Bring cookies to share; hot chocolate and punch will be provided.
St. John plans pageant, dinner
JERSEY SHORE - St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church will decorate the church for Christmas after worship tomorrow. Those participating are asked to bring a dish of food to share.
The annual children's Christmas pageant will be held Sunday, Dec, 19 at 10:30 a.m., followed by the congregation's Christmas dinner. Bring your own place settings and a casserole to share.
Pine Run Church offers cantata
LINDEN - Pine Run United Methodist Church will present the Christmas cantata "Emmanuel" at 7 p.m. Friday and again at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. The church is at 1719 Pine Run Road, about two miles north of Route 220.
Rote U.M. Church to show movie
ROTE - Everyone is invited to Movie Night at Rote United Methodist Church, 102 Beagle Road, at 7 p.m. next Saturday. The movie "The Note" will be shown. Popcorn is provided.
Trinity plans potluck, caroling
JERSEY SHORE - Trinity United Methodist Church plans a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by Christmas caroling. Hot cocoa and cookies will be offered after the caroling.
