Charles Edward Meeks, a resident of Ridgetown, and formerly of Woolrich, and Cartersville, Ga., was taken home to his Lord with family by his side at the Village Retirement Residence in Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at the age of 90.
Charles was the son of the late William T. and Dollie Adeline (Colwell) Meeks.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Meeks (nee Fields) and loving father of Willa Dale (Arend) Smid of Ridgetown.
Charles was the proud grandfather of Charles Smid (Rhonda), John Smid (Nadia) and William Smid, all of Toronto, and Matthew Smid of Guelph, and very proud (great-) Granddaddy to Noah, Nathan and Ocean Smid.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Shields of Monaca, Pa. and a brother-in-law, David Gray of Beaver, Pa.
He was predeceased by his brothers John, William and Jack.
He was born in Gainesville, Ga. and was a graduate of Georgia Tech and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
Charles was a chemical engineer by profession and was previously employed by Emery Uncommon Chemicals in Lock Haven, and earlier by Chemical Products Corporation in Cartersville, Ga.
In his retirement he was quite active in S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps of Retired Executives) in North-central Pennsylvania.
He was a long-time member of Rotary International in Georgia and Pennsylvania as well as Ridgetown, and a devoted member of the Woolrich Community United Methodist Church.
A private family service will be held at the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester, Pa.
Donations may be made in memory of Charles to the Rotary Club of Lock Haven.
